Simple Way To Hydrate Your Skin
Who does not get stressed out on the night before the exam? I know I always do. I can’t afford to take care of my skin when I’m so stressed about an exam. Thus, I end up with dry skin adorned with pimples (sarcasm).
Recently, I just passed a horrible final exam week. The pressure was so high that I did not get to sleep much let alone get to do the regular skincare routine. After the exam week, I discovered my skin had become so dull and dehydrated. I also noticed small dry patches here and there. The only thing left to happen was the emergence of a bunch of pimples.
If anyone is wondering, yes, stress can cause dryness on your skin. Psychological stress disturbs the lipid barrier of the skin which leads to internal water content evaporating thus dryness of skin. According to the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, study found that women who suffer from psychological stress are highly prone to dehydration, even to eczema ( rough patches of skin with inflamed blisters)
So I hurried back to my usual skincare routine, HONEY, and Aloe Vera! I discovered the magical power of Honey and Aloe Vera almost 3 years ago. Since then I have been using these two natural ingredients when I need to hydrate my skin and it never fail to disappoint me.
Why Honey? Because-
-Honey is a great moisturizer, known as a natural “humectant” that is the ability to absorb moisture from the environment (air) and lock it in.
– Antimicrobial property of honey fights the microbes so less chance of having a pimple.
– Honey is soothing for the skin.
In addition to honey, I also started using this medicinal plant, Aloe Vera. Thanks to the recent skincare hype, everyone knows how amazing Aloe Vera is for the skin. It can heal a burn, soothe skin infections, and brighten up the skin and the list of its benefits goes on.
I used aloe vera for hydrating my skin specifically because-
-Aloe Vera has a high content of water; the aloe gel contains around 99% water.
-It elevates the retention of water in the skin
-Aloe Vera can be used as a moisturizer.
How I used Honey and Aloe Vera
1. I followed my skin routine which consists of Exfoliating, Cleansing, Toning, and Moisturizing; as a moisturizer, I used Aloe Vera gel.
2. I did not wash off the Aloe Vera gel; I let it be absorbed by the skin.
3. Just before going to bed, I simply massaged a teaspoon of honey onto my skin and left it overnight.
In the morning, I found my skin smooth, soft and silky, who would not want that? I continued the routine for almost two weeks. I succeeded to regain the hydrating skin.I like to use honey as an overnight moisturizing mask. However, if you don’t want to have sticky honey on your face for overnight, keep it for thirty minutes and then wash off with lukewarm.I should mention that I did not buy any commercial Aloe Vera gel for that. I simply bought the plant aloe Vera and scoop out the gel to use. You can go buy the plant aloe vera or commercial ones from a good brand. I personally like Aloe 94% by the “Nature’s Secret” brand. Another great product is Soothing and Moisture Aloe Vera by”Nature republic”

I know this is an old post, and I’m not sure if you still use this mix, but I found that it worked very well on mine and my dathuger’s hair (I added glycerine and a few drops of jojoba oil). I would like to know though, what do you add to it to preserve the mix so that it doesn’t need to stay in the refrigerator?
